we are ridiculous
in freezing darkness her car pulls into a spot off the road
across the street from houses with lights on
we are alone.
we left her warm house to come here.
pull out a sleeping bag and walk along the cold sand in the middle of december.
it is freezing, we are ridiculous.
we make it to the beach and hurry out the sleeping bag,
cram into it, holding each other close for warmth.
i dream us miles from Marin.
watching constellations and listening to waves hit our beach
we huddle close on the freezing sand,
kiss like we are holding onto each other for warmth with our lips
I pretend the beach is ours. that we are alone on this beach because
it is ours,
not because it is freezing and dark out.
